Art generates knowledge, connection, and meaning.
As an art therapist and artist, I believe in the importance of creating, whether this means developing ideas, building structures, drawing pictures, or telling stories. I consider the senses and the body to be an essential source of knowledge. I am guided by the theory that metaphors are one of the main ways that we understand the world, and that artmaking is a way to uncover, highlight, and expand upon universal, cultural, and personal metaphor systems. This exploration has the capacity to create connections among people, ideas, and communities.
